Adrenal Insufficiency

(DECREASED IMMUNE FUNCTION, INCREASE BLOOD PRESSURE AND HEART RATE, AND INCREASE NERVE ALARM)

Adrenal Support — 2 capsules twice a day. Helps compensate for what stress burns up.

Pantethine Plus — 1 capsule 3 times a day. B5 is an essential nutrient for proper adrenal and immune function. Pantethine is the more readily available and active form of B5.

Moducare (Thorne Research)  — 3 at bedtime. Helps reduce elevated cortisol levels thus decreasing the chance for chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, fibromyalgia, hypoglycemia,  insomnia, menstrual abnormalities, rapid aging, and stress.

Potassium Plus (PhytoPharmica) — 1 three times a day with meals. The most important dietary recommendation for adrenal health is to restore potassium-sodium balance. Most American diets are 1:2 K:Na. Ideally, we should get at least 5 times as much potassium as we get sodium (a ratio of 5:1 not 1:2). Most people only get 1/10th the potassium they need. Foods high in potassium include: asparagus, bananas, carrots, potatoes, oranges, strawberries and apples. Eat more fruits and vegetables!

VitaGen (Health Care America)— 1 twice a day. Restores vitality and energy by tuning up the adrenal gland and reestablishing proper cortisol levels. Contains VitaGen (HealthCare Supplements) ginseng and other nutrients.

Vitamin B6 — 50mg to 100mg per day

Vitamin C — 500mg to 1,500mg per day

Magnesium Citrate — 250mg to 500mg per day

Zinc Picolinate — 20mg to 30mg per day

DHEA — 25mg to 50mg daily. Boosts energy. Supports adrenal function. (For those over age 40, primarily). Particularly useful in women with autoimmune problems such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or multiple sclerosis (they may need 50mg to100mg per day). Reduce does is “acne” appears. Women who have not gone through the change of life do not do well on DHEA (facial hair and menstrual abnormalities). These women can use conservative doses, no higher than 5mg to 15mg per day. Men age 40 to 50 = take 15mg to 25mg per day. Older men usually need 25mg to 50mg per day. Over age 70 will need larger doses.

LIFESTYLE: The freckle like discolorations on the skin are buildups of lipofuscin, a dark substance produced by the body’s cells.
